MEET THE MONEY – Entrepreneurs helping entrepreneurs.
Helping entrepreneurs access the financial and knowledge resources
needed to launch their business concepts, in a complex market.
The goal of this project is to match one or more entrepreneurs with a capital injection of $10,000 up to $50,000 from a hand-picked panel of angel investors.
There are three rounds to the Project before the finalists will MEET THE MONEY in the final fourth round.
Round One: Call for EntrepreneursCALGARY: October 18, 2007 SAIT
campus You must pre-register and submit an application either via e-mail or in-person at the CALL FOR ENTREPRENEURS events in Calgary and Edmonton THERE ARE LIMITED SPOTS AVAILABLE. First come first serve for up to 80 pre-registrants (40 per city) – however applicants are welcome to come down to the open call and will be admitted on a no show basis. Entrepreneurs will have 5 minutes to pitch their idea or concept to the panel. At this stage, you must demonstrate you have a valid concept, are committed to building on your idea, and are truly passionate about realizing your dream. • Do bring a prototype if you have one We want to hear from you about your idea. Show us your passion! At the end of the day the panel will decide who the successful candidates are that will enter the next round. Round 1 successful candidates will be chosen on a subjective basis by demonstrating passion, creativity and clearly articulating the vision for your business. You will be notified that day if you have been chosen for Round 2. |
Round Two: Pitch to the Panel
October 26, 2007, Red Deer: LOCATION TO BE DIVULGED TO CONTENDERS
All chosen candidates from both events held in Edmonton and Calgary will come together in this round.
Each person will have 15 minutes to impress the panel who will ask specific questions to determine the validity of your idea or concept and how much you are committed to making your dream come true.
A maximum of 10 candidates will be selected to enter the third round where they will be groomed, coached and taught how to pitch their idea to the panel of investors.
Round Three – Business BootcampEdmonton - November 12 Location TBD You are a FINALIST 10 lucky candidates participate in a comprehensive full day workshop that will prepare them for the final event where they will MEET THE MONEY. Candidates will work one-on-one with experienced entrepreneurs who are dedicated to passing along their knowledge to help prepare candidates for their money pitch to local investors. They will learn how to: • fine tune their presentation and articulate their vision The workshop will consist of presentations and expert input from our panel of entrepreneurs, with break out sessions in which the candidates can get specific help and advice from the panel, which will allow them to polish their pitch to a shine! |
Round 4 - MEET THE MONEY
Edmonton - November 29 Location TBD
The heat is on…
The lucky 10 finalists will have a maximum of one hour each to pitch their concept and answer investor’s questions. The amount of time will be determined by the questions asked by the investors. You will need to be quick on your feet, ready to respond to the heat. There is no going back know. What ever you say and do will be scrutinized – so put your best foot forward!
The investors are ready to provide the financial supported needed to launch a business concept.
How well you present yourself, your business idea and how compelling your pitch to the investors is, will determine if you are successful.
There are no guarantees. We hope that at least 1 and as many as 3 entrepreneurs garner the financial support they need to make their dream a reality.
Requirements
Once you are a successful candidate, you will be required to submit your
business plan and provide personal and business background for credit diligence,
fraud and criminal background checks. These are mandatory and the program
cannot be advanced until these are satisfactorily completed.
In addition, negotiation between the investor and the entrepreneur will engage at this stage of the process, with entrepreneurs and investors discussing how the project will move forward and ironing out any individual preferences.
Entrepreneurs will be required to engage in monthly conference calls with
an Advisory Panel, to review progress, provide accountability, discuss next
steps and work through strategic planning. The intended scope of this project
will be January to September 2008, with the candidate who generates the
best buzz and improvement on their business concept over that 9 month period
launching next year’s event!
